On the Human Condition, Man's Ego and Folly ... and God

A very sad and horrible piece of news made it to my local newspapers last week, I read the small article in the free paper that's available at the street corner and which I usually never bother to read. Just a few days before the canonisation of Pope John Paul II in Rome, a young tourist was killed by the collapse of a massive crucifix  designed in honor of John Paul II when he visited Cevo in 1998. The crucifix which reached 30m high had an unusual and modern design, curving downward. The statue itself on top of three wooden beams joined together weighed 600 kg. An accident waiting to happen, not dissimilar to the makings of a financial crisis. One could have thought this would happen one day but there were no warnings and no safety measures from the authorities. The installation could have collapsed when no one was there but in a tragic twist of fate it happened just ahead of the late Pope's canonisation and just as a group of youths and children were visiting the monument. The story could not have been sadder : the young person who was killed had a slight disability and was unable to move out of the way like the others.

Grandiose : I wonder what God would have thought of that crucifix

Now let's go back to the absurdity of the Great Game, just so we can forget about the absurdity of our condition.
